Travel Guide & Recommendations

The City of Arts and Sciences, Valencia
Valencia is best enjoyed at an easy pace: gardens, market, beach and a good table. Here are the essential tips on transportation, safety and where to stay for your trip.
✨ What You Can't Miss
- 🏛️City of Arts and Sciences — Calatrava's futuristic complex, with the Palau de les Arts, the Hemisfèric, the Museu de les Ciències and the Oceanogràfic. It is Valencia's postcard, especially at sunset.
- ⛪Cathedral, Micalet & Silk Exchange — Walk the old town: climb the Micalet tower for city views and visit the Silk Exchange, a World Heritage Site.
- 🛒Central Market — A modernist iron-and-glass building with hundreds of stalls of fruit, ham, fish and local products. Perfect for a morning of snacking.
- 🚲Turia Gardens — The former riverbed turned into a park, with paths, historic bridges, sports areas and gardens. Best explored by bike from end to end.
- 🥘The Albufera & paella — A few kilometers from the city, this natural lagoon surrounded by rice fields is the birthplace of paella. A boat ride at sunset is a classic.
- 🏖️Malvarrosa & Las Arenas beaches — Urban beaches of fine sand with a seafront promenade and restaurants, minutes from downtown by tram or metro.

🏘️ Where to Stay
- Ciutat Vella (El Carmen): The old town: cathedral, Silk Exchange, market and streets full of bars, all on foot. The most convenient area for a first visit, though a bit noisy on weekends.
- Ruzafa: A creative, food-focused neighborhood with specialty cafés, independent shops and good nightlife, a short walk from downtown.
- El Cabanyal / Malvarrosa: The seafaring neighborhood by the beach, with colorful houses and a seafront promenade. Ideal if you want the sea and a more local feel, with a tram link to downtown.
🚌 Getting Around
The airport connects to downtown by metro in about 25 to 30 minutes. Within the city, the metro, tram and EMT buses cover almost everything, and the center is walkable. The Turia Gardens bike path runs from the old town to the City of Arts and Sciences, and you can reach the beach by metro or tram. For the Albufera, there is a bus from downtown or organized excursions.
🛡️ Safety & Tips
Valencia is a safe city for travelers. As in any European tourist destination, pickpockets operate in busy areas such as the market, public transport and downtown squares; keep your belongings close and don't leave your phone on a café table. At night, downtown and beach areas are usually lively, but use common sense on empty streets.
