- 🍽️Francesinha & Gastronomy — The francesinha is Portugal's most famous sandwich: layers of meat, melted cheese, and spicy sauce. Pair it with an ice-cold Super Bock.
- ⛵Douro River Cruise — Sail along the Douro River to the Douro Valley, a UNESCO wine region. Landscapes of green terraces and historic estates.
Ribeira do Porto
🏘️ Where to Stay
- Ribeira: The historic heart by the Douro River. UNESCO Heritage, restaurants, and views of Dom Luís I bridge.
- Cedofeita / Bonfim: Creative and authentic neighborhoods. Art galleries, specialty coffee, and more accessible prices.
- Vila Nova de Gaia: Across the river. Port wine cellars, hotels with panoramic views, and sunny terraces.
🚌 Getting Around
Porto is very walkable but has steep hills. The metro covers the airport and main areas. STCP buses cover the entire city. The historic tram (line 1) is picturesque but slow. The Andante card works for metro, buses, and tram. Cross to Vila Nova de Gaia by walking across the bridge.
🛡️ Safety & Tips
Porto is one of the safest cities in Europe. Beware of pickpockets in tourist areas like São Bento and Ribeira. Steep streets can be slippery when wet — wear comfortable shoes with good grip. Port wine is strong (20% alcohol) — drink in moderation.
